The Super Bowl Arc: The Host City, the Big Game, and the Week That Surrounds It

The Super Bowl is the most-watched sporting event in America — a week-long cultural festival in a rotating host city, with the game as the anchor. Here is how to build the arc around Super Bowl 2027 in Los Angeles.

What does this trip actually cost?

Flying fromFlightsTypical / personBudget to premium
Miami$350$2,500$1,500 to $5,000
New York$300$2,400$1,400 to $4,800
Chicago$300$2,400$1,400 to $4,800
London$700$3,000$2,000 to $5,800
Toronto$380$2,500$1,500 to $5,000

Per person. Super Bowl tickets: face value $1,000–2,500 (allocated by NFL lottery), secondary market $2,500–10,000+. Super Bowl Experience (fan convention, free or low-cost entry): free to attend. Host city hotel during Super Bowl week doubles or triples. LA hotel (6 nights). Santa Barbara hotel (2 nights, more affordable than LA). Note: the Super Bowl host city rotates annually — verify the 2027 location as the NFL schedule shifts.

The Super Bowl rotates between NFL host cities — warm weather cities and domed stadium markets that can accommodate the February event. Super Bowl 2027 host city is TBC (the NFL typically announces 2–3 years ahead). This arc is built around the Los Angeles template — if the 2027 game is elsewhere, the same framework applies with the host city substituted. The Super Bowl week matters as much as the game: the NFL Experience, media events, concerts, and sponsor activations fill the host city from Monday through Sunday. Attending the game itself requires either winning the NFL ticket lottery or purchasing on secondary markets at significant premium.

Los Angeles: days 1 to 6

Fly into LAX or Burbank (BUR). Rent a car — LA without a car is a different and worse city. Super Bowl week events are spread across the city: the NFL Experience fan convention runs at the Los Angeles Convention Center from Tuesday through Saturday before the game (free or low-cost entry) — interactive drills, player appearances, and the complete NFL experience. The Super Bowl Opening Night (Monday before game week) is a ticketed media event where both rosters face the press — atmosphere unlike any press conference. The Super Bowl concert (typically the Saturday night before the game) and sponsor concerts (Capital One tailgate, Fanatics parties) are the most accessible premium events. The game: SoFi Stadium in Inglewood seats 70,000. The halftime show is the most-watched music performance in America annually. LA beyond the game: The same Los Angeles described in the Coachella arc — Griffith Observatory, Venice Beach, Malibu, the Getty, LACMA, the restaurant scene.

Santa Barbara: days 7 to 8

Drive north 1.5 hours on the US-101 to Santa Barbara — the American Riviera. The Mission, the Spanish Colonial architecture, and the State Street wine tasting rooms make it the most elegant California small city. The Funk Zone neighbourhood (warehouses converted to wine tasting rooms and restaurants) is the best eating area. The Santa Barbara Harbor and Stearns Wharf give the best coastal views. Return to LA for the flight home.

Note: verify the Super Bowl 2027 host city before booking. The NFL schedule for host cities is announced 2–3 years ahead. If the game moves to a different city, this arc adapts: New Orleans (French Quarter as base), Miami (South Beach and the Keys), Tampa (Gulf Coast and Everglades), or whichever city the NFL selects.

Questions

How do you get Super Bowl tickets?
The NFL distributes the majority of Super Bowl tickets to the two participating teams (about 35% each) and the host team. The remaining 30% goes to NFL sponsors, the media, and the general public through the NFL's official ticket lottery (apply through the NFL website in June–July before the February game). Face value is $1,000–2,500 depending on seat location. The secondary market — StubHub, SeatGeek, Ticketmaster Resale — has tickets at $2,500–10,000+, with floor prices typically in the $3,000–4,000 range in the final weeks.
What is the Super Bowl halftime show?
The halftime show is a 12–15 minute pop concert produced at a scale that exceeds most arena tours — a custom stage built in the field, hundreds of dancers and performers, and an estimated 120 million US viewers. It has hosted Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Shakira and JLo, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, and Usher in recent editions. It is the most-watched music performance in America annually and a cultural event in its own right.
Is attending the Super Bowl worth the money?
The experience — the scale of the stadium, the halftime show live, the crowd energy — is genuinely extraordinary. The game itself is often anticlimactic if you don't follow the teams closely. The week of events surrounding the game provides the fuller experience and many of the official events are free or low-cost. For a first-time NFL experience, attending a regular season or playoff game at a good stadium provides most of the atmosphere at 10% of the cost.
